In the Real Estate Council of the Netherlands (RVR) eight agencies of six different ministries work together in the buying, selling and managing of property by the State for public purposes. Together, the eight agencies manage about €70,000,000,000 of real estate, and over 10% of the land area of the country.
Each individual agency has to deal with many property transactions every year. Cooperation of the individual agencies within the RVR makes the implementation of government policy more effective and more efficient. Through cooperation the policies of the individual agencies can also be coordinated better. This puts the government in a better position to anticipate shifts in the property market. The expertise of the individual agencies is further enhanced through the exchange of knowledge and information.
In short, by having its ministries join forces within the RVR, the State is no longer simply the largest player in the Dutch real estate market, it is also a player that operates effectively, efficiently and with cost awareness.
