Fraud amounting to millions with VAT constructions luxury yachts tackled

Under the joint direction of the Netherlands and French Tax Authorities and Customs Services, European tax authorities have discovered a fraud amounting to millions with VAT constructions concerning the delivery of luxury yachts. Approximately 300 owners of yachts and companies involved have to pay this sum as yet to the tax authorities of 11 Member States.

Government reinforces SNS REAAL's capital position by EUR 750 million

The government is reinforcing the capital position of SNS REAAL N.V. (hereafter: SNS REAAL) by EUR 750 million. The Ministry of Finance and De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) came to this agreement on Wednesday 12 November.

Higher amount tax-free import

As from 1 December 2008, travellers may import tax-free goods from countries outside the European Union for a higher amount. When they arrive in the Netherlands by aeroplane or boat, they may take along goods tax-free for €430, which was €175.

IMF help for Iceland

The IMF Executive Board unanimously approved a loan of 2.1 billion USD to Iceland. The goal of the IMF Stand-By Arrangement is to support the country’s program to restore confidence and stabilize the economy. As part of the IMF program, Iceland has committed to meet its obligations to domestic and foreign depositors of the Icelandic banks in a non-discriminatory manner.

Two strong insurance companies and one strong bank

The Ministry of Finance is setting out a new course for the companies that were acquired by the Dutch State: Fortis Bank Nederland, the Fortis-owned parts of the former ABN AMRO, Fortis Verzekeringen Nederland and Fortis Corporate Insurance.
