On 27 January 2010, the Netherlands signed a treaty with San Marino for the exchange of tax information. The treaty was signed by Ambassador Stoelinga and the San Marino Minister of Foreign Affairs.
The realisation of this treaty fits in with the intensive tackling of persons not declaring their savings by State Secretary De Jager. The convention provides that both countries will exchange information in tax matters on request. Thus tax dodging can be avoided. The treaty will come into force, when the parliaments of both countries have adopted it.
State Secretary De Jager has continuously urged for more international transparency and the exchange of data at various international occasions (G20, OECD, EU). In the near future, a similar treaty will be signed with Switzerland. Negotiations are being held with other countries, for instance Gibraltar.
