Expenditure reviews
On the presentation of its national budget for 2010 in September
2009, the government announced that it would undertake expenditure
reviews about the volume and level of collective expenditures in
the Netherlands. The worsened position of government finances means
that we must make some fundamental choices about the future. To
accomplish this, 20 working groups have been created to develop
concrete policy variants in 20 policy fields and to present ways to
reduce expenditures, leaving the ultimate choice up to politics.
The results were offered to the Lower House on 1 April 2010. The
politics have to indicate how and in which pace they want to solve
the problems of the government finances in the upcoming elections.
